IN BRIEF
The European Commission has authorized the alliance between the Swedish truck maker Volvo and the Chinese firm Dongfeng thus creating the world’s number one truck maker. The Commission believes that this alliance will not be an impediment to competition in Europe. In January Volvo announced that it was to acquire a 45 % stake in Dongfeng’s heavy duty truck business for a total of 5.6 billion yuan (636 million euro). Dongfeng is a publicly owned company which also makes cars. The Swedish company has declared that this transaction will make them "the world’s largest truck maker" ahead of Daimler.
